The Institute of Human Rights, Democracy and Culture of Peace and Non-Violence (DEMOSPAZ) comes about with an innovative feature, its mixed nature. It was created through an agreement between the Culture of Peace Foundation and the Autonomous University of Madrid, after years of collaboration between both entities.
It is set in an area of cultural and scientific convergence, which aims to link the academic community to human rights, democracy and culture of peace and non-violence in a historical moment of crucial changes and systemic crisis. This scenario requires a commitment to the values of peace, justice, solidarity and equality.
The Institute has an international scope and is linked to initiatives organized by the United Nations in the field of democracy, education, peace and human rights. DEMOSPAZ promotes the creation of inter-university and UNESCO Chairs, stimulates research projects and facilitates the mobility of students, faculty members and researchers from the corresponding collaboration agreements with United Nations programs and other national and international institutions mobility.
