Launch of the Demospaz Institute

The University Institute of Human Rights, Democracy and Peace Culture and Nonviolence (DEMOSPAZ-UAM) was born as a result of the merging between the academic sphere (the UAM) and a civil society entity such as the Peace Culture Foundation

Official Launch of the DEMOSPAZ-UAM Institute

The University Institute for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace Culture and Nonviolence (DEMOSPAZ-UAM) was officially presented to the media on Tuesday, the 20th of September. The Institute is born with an innovative feature in this field: its mixed character, as it is the result of the fusion between the academic sphere (the UAM) and a civil society entity such as the Peace Culture Foundation. Its international projection has allowed it to participate in the IV High Level Forum of the UN on Culture of Peace at the beginning of September 2016. DEMOSPAZ-UAM presented the international campaign 'Disarmament for Development' during the event. The Institute is located in a space of unique cultural and scientific convergence. Its creation constitutes a great opportunity for the Autonomous University of Madrid to be a pioneer and reference in this field, grouping the work of professors, researchers and organizations linked to peace, human rights and democracy. Another defining feature of DEMOSPAZ is its broad interdisciplinarity as it brings together prestigious academics, intellectuals and specialists from different work groups and disciplines.
