I Demospaz Research Seminar “Utopia”, 21st of September 2017, Madrid”
Descripción: “Utopia is the imagined representation of a society contrary to the existing one, by virtue of: a) a different way of organizing our society, considered as a whole; b) different institutions and relations than the ones that make up our global society; c) different ways of living day to day life. [However,] utopia can be considered a possibility within our existing society.” (Bronislaw Baczko, Lumières de l’utopie) On the basis of this inspiring quote, we have put forward the questions that arise from this topic, as well as the possible uses of the concept “utopia” when analyzing reality and active proposals for peace and the improvement of social conditions. We have discussed some of the key utopian proposals through the history philosophical thought, but also of the possibility of of considering the concept of utopia from a critical perspective, which can identify its practicality within current thought.
