Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in particular SDG 16 on peace, security and governance that seeks to explore what role local and regional authorities, as well as other actors, can play in promoting just, inclusive and peaceful societies.
The universal nature of the 2030 Agenda, and the need to “translate” it into the capacities and challenges of each country, opens up extraordinary opportunities at the local level, to develop action plans that allow the implementation of this objective.
Objective 16 on peace, security and governance in turn allows locating national and local policies in the multilateral framework, being very positive. Peace and good governance are political goals, difficult to reduce to a technical level based on effectiveness and efficiency. The challenge will be defining ways to operationalize and ensure compliance. For this, the role of local, regional authorities, universities and civil society organizations, among others, will be essential.
- Explore the possibilities of implementing SDG 16 on peace, security and governance from a multilevel perspective, at the local, regional and national level.
- Identify the role of social, educational, political and cultural actors in the implementation of SDG 16.
- Analyse the opportunities and obstacles to operationalize the 2030 Agenda and ensure compliance.
- Know the main initiatives and experiences that are being carried out in the promotion and implementation of SDG 16 and explore the synergies with other actions.
